The 4th CIRP Conference on Surface Integrity (CIRP CSI 2018) was held in Tianjin, China on July 11-14. The conference was organized by the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Tianjin University. The conference chairman, professor Fengzhou Fang, from Tianjin University chaired the opening ceremony.

The aim of the conference was to present and exchange the latest achievements of surface integrity related research, which is of great significance in manufacturing and production quality, to an international forum. It sought to give insight into the scientific knowledge of the formation and evolution of surface integrity in various surface processes, as well as looking into practical case studies and to evaluate aspects of surface integrity and functional performance from an industrial point of view. It is a platform to discuss advanced manufacturing and measurement technologies that control, improve and evaluate surface integrity.

More than 200 delegates from fifteen countries all over the world have attended the conference. Seven keynote speeches were given by distinguished scholars from China, Germany, UK, US and Japan on the important topics in surface integrity area. Nineteen sessions were organized for presenting the latest findings of research and development from 119 scholars, mainly in the area of precision and ultra-precision surface design and surface integrity in the manufacturing and measurement process. Thirteen Best Papers and five Best Posters were awarded throughout the evaluation of the Conference Award Committee.
